On almost any remote stretch of Cape Cod beach, you'll find at least one sea gull standing sentinel, its only company often a jaged piece of weathered driftwood. The seasgull will usually stand virtually frozen still, staring toward the water — that is, until you remove something to eat from your beach bag, at which all decorum ceases and the creature turns to pester you until either fed or shooed away.
